Aline Roberts Obituary

Aline Winbourne Gray (Mrs. James Gary Roberts) died Sunday August 4, 2024 at the Weakley County Nursing Home. She was born in Madison, Tn. on Oct. 23, 1936. She was the 2 nd oldest of four girls raised on their Madison, TN farm by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. William W. Gray (decreased). She is the fifth generation of “Gray’s Ointment Co.” a basic medicine which began in 1820, invented by her g.g. grandfather Dr. William Waller Gray in Richmond, Virginia. In the late 1970’s the family business was recognized as the oldest manufacturer in Tennessee. Aline was a Girl Scout, member of 4-H Club, a Jr. Garden Club member and started showing walking ponies in Horse Shows in her home area at age three. She graduated from Goodlettsville High School in 1955. Aline received her B. S. degree from UT Knoxville in Home Economics-Child Development in 1959. While attending UTK she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was a Tennessee Vols fan throughout her lifetime. She met her future husband James Gary Roberts of Sharon, Tn. at UTK and married on Aug. 30, 1958, in Madison, Tn. They celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary-Aug. 30, 2023. She is survived by her husband James Gary Roberts of Sharon, three sons Gary (Karen)Roberts, (Sharon); John (Trudi) Roberts, (Knoxville) and Lee (Anna) Roberts, (Sharon); grandchildren: Alex (Mallory) Roberts (Greenfield,Tn.), Rachel (Roberto) Mateo (Mayfield, Ky.); Brooke Roberts and Lane Roberts (Knoxville); Ty (Kimberlin Roberts) (Clinton, Tn.)
Rex (Jenna) Roberts (Paducah. Ky.) and Grant Roberts (Jackson, Tn.). great-granddaughters Elena Mateo and Kennedy Roberts (Clinton, Tn); Step- granddaughter Stacy Turbyville and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Turbyville (Nashville); Sisters Mary Gray Martin, (Ray) of (Goodlettsville); Betty Gray Kincaid, (Nashville); and deceased sister Jane Gray Kinsolving (Joe), (Madison, Tn.)

Aline was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and served one term as State Librarian; She served as TN State President of the Daughters of the American Colonists; Colonial Dames of XVII Century; United States Daughters of 1812; and Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of VA; She was a member of: The Hereditary Order of Descendants of the Loyalists and Patriots of the American Revolution; Order of the Crown of Charlemagne in USA; Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars; Sons and Daughters of the Colonial and Antebellum Bench and Bar; Order of Americans of Armorial Ancestry and National Gavel Club. She also served as National President of Huguenots Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia. Aline has served on various boards in her town, Cancer, Heart, TN Bicentennial Committee, Weakley Co. Ladies Republican Board, and most recently Weakley County
Bicentennial Committee. She enjoyed entertaining her social groups and church groups on a regular basis in her home. She actively took part with Veterans groups and Sharon parades. Aline loved her country and was actively involved in Weakley County schools for over forty years promoting Constitution Day each September. Aline was baptized into body of Jesus Christ at age fourteen. She was a member of Sharon Church of Christ over the past fifty years and a member of the Ladies Freed- Hardeman Club. She loved the Lord and was honored to serve Him. She cooked hundreds of meals for families who lost loved ones and visited the elderly throughout her life. Her interests included history, traveling, antiques, playing cards with the Sharon Bridge
Club Ladies. She loved to cook for family gatherings, birthday celebrations, and holidays. As one friend defined her, “she was a true patriotic Southern lady”. Pallbearers included her five grandsons, Roberto Mateo. Honorary pallbearers include each of her society groups mentioned above. Any donations or memorials can be made to the Woodlawn Cemetery fund at Simmons Bank in Sharon.
Funeral visitation will be Thursday Aug. 8 from 6-8 pm at the Sharon Church of Christ and visitation Friday morning from 9:30 to 11am with funeral beginning at 11. Any memorials given in her honor need to go to the:
