Mr. E. J. Eaton, 73 of Martin, TN. died August 19, 2010 @ his home in Martin. A memorial service will be held @ 11 a.m. on August 21, 2010 @ the First Methodist Church in Martin, TN. with Reverends Randy Cooper & Bill Tate Officiating. Visitation will be @ the church from 9:30a.m. til service time. Mr. Eaton was born May 30, 1937 in Storm Lake, Iowa, son of the late Mr. Wendell and Zelda Schwartz Eaton. Mr. E. J. was the Professor Emeritus of Music at the University of Tennessee at Martin, He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, and a Master of Music Performance degree from Boston University. Mr. E. J. was a trombonist and taught low brass, music education, and supervised student teachers for 35 yrs. at UT Martin. He directed the UTM Jazz Band and was a member of the Jackson Symphony for many yrs. Mr. E. J. was also director of the Instant Replay Band and a member of the Memory Makers Band. He received the Outstanding Advisor Award and was named the Outstanding Professor of the Tennessee Governor's School for the Humanities. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and directed the Adult Handbell Choir, the Joy Ringers. His hobbies were fishing, woodworking, and visiting the Outerbanks of North Carolina. Mr. E. J. is survived by his wife Mrs. Beverly Mollhoff Eaton of Martin, TN., One son Dr. Todd(Allison)Eaton of Danridge, TN., One Daughter Dr. Heather(Tim) Erskine of Charlotte, N.C.;and two grandsons Carson & Douglas Eaton of Dandridge, TN. Honorary Pallbearers for Mr. E. J. are Mike Atkins, Mike Barnett, John Bucy, Jim Cannon, Sherrill Carroll, Dan Garner, Jerry Gresham, Mike Hernon, Jerry Lacy, Ed Lanning, Craig Marsh, Bob Mollhoff, Warren Nanney, and members of the Memory Makers Band. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the UTM Department of Music or First United Methodist Church Music Fund.
