Hallie Kathryn Powers, age 91, of Greenfield, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home on August 22, 2024, after a long and fulfilling life.
Kathryn was born June 6, 1933 in Weakley County to Harvel and Pauline Berry. She and her three brothers, Gwinnon, Robert and Ballard were raised on McCumber farm in Greenfield where her parents worked. Kathryn spent nearly all of her life in Greenfield, Tennessee, where she attended grade school through high school, graduating from Greenfield High School in 1951. After graduation she moved to Washington D.C. and was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a fingerprint technician. Following her time with the FBI she then returned home to Greenfield to marry William Sherman Powers, whom she was married to for 40 years. Kathryn and Sherman lived in Chicago, Illinois for a few years after marriage but returned to Greenfield to raise their children. Kathryn was a stay-at-home mother of 3 children until her youngest started school in 1971. With all of her children at school, Kathryn took a job as the administrative assistant and bookkeeper at Greenfield School where she worked for 37 years seeing her 3 children and four of her grandchildren graduate from Greenfield High School. Kathryn was known for her dedication to the school system and helping many children along the way. She was known as Granny by many. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved her children and grandchildren fiercely.
Kathryn is survived by three children: Mark (Rima) Powers of Lexington Tennessee, Kathi (Lonnie) Bolton, and Jill (Tom) Box, both of Greenfield, Tennessee. She also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Courtney Bolton of Greenfield, Tennessee, Amy (Jason) Petrungaro of Saint John, Indiana, Josh Box of Greenfield, Tennessee, and Andrea (Todd) Scarbrough of Pillowville, Tennessee as well as two beloved great-grandchildren, Fox Thomas Scarbrough and Poppy Scarbrough. She was predeceased by her father, Harvel Berry, her mother, Pauline Crocker Berry, her brothers Ballard, Gwinnon, and Robert Berry.
The family will have visitation from 11am-12:30pm at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield, Tennessee on Saturday, August 24, 2024 with a graveside service at 1pm at Hornbeak Cemetery in Greenfield, Tennessee.
