James Kent Boyd, age 85, of Martin, Tennessee, entered eternal rest on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. He was reunited with his beloved wife of nearly 64 years, Pattie Jane Capps Boyd.
Born on November 17, 1939, in Newbern, Tennessee, Kent was the son of the late John William “Willie” Boyd and Elzie Grissom Boyd. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bill “Hoppy” Boyd; sisters, Madge Boyd May and Myra Boyd; and his wife, Pattie Boyd.
He is survived by his two sons, Bradley Kent Boyd (Cindy) of Martin, Tennessee and Bartley Kevin Boyd (Angie) of Cleveland, Tennessee, and two grand-daughters, Chelsea Boyd (Brad) of Oxford, Mississippi, and Rachel Boyd (Bart) of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is also survived by his brother, Robert “Bobby” Boyd (Sandra) and his sister, Hilda Boyd Griggs (Jesse).
A former resident of Union City, Tennessee, Kent was employed with Reelfoot Packing Company before relocating to Cookeville, where he and Pattie made their home for 42 years. There, they were devoted members of Willow Avenue Church of Christ, and Kent worked for FFM, QVS, and Ficosa. Kent Boyd had a deep and abiding passion for all things John Deere. He enjoyed mowing and helping Pattie tend to their beautiful lawn and gardens. In 2024, he returned to Martin following Pattie’s passing.
A memorial service will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield, Tennessee, on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Visitation at 11 am with funeral to follow at 12 pm. Larry Powers will officiate the service. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jeff Boyd, Jesse Griggs, Timothy Boyd, and Don Teal.
