Luther Neblett, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by those he loved. Born on September 1, 1945, Luther was one of ten siblings and learned early the value of family, hard work, and kindness. He grew up in Erwin, Tennessee, and later moved to Greenfield, where he graduated from high school and met the love of his life, June Grooms. Their love story spanned decades, rooted in faith, laughter, and deep devotion. Together they raised two daughters, BeLynda (Troy) and Amanda (Barry), whom he adored and supported every step of the way. Luther worked for many years with Bellsouth, where he earned the nickname “everyone’s favorite telephone man.” His dedication to his work was matched only by his genuine care for people. Whether you knew him as a co-worker, neighbor, or stranger passing by, Luther had a way of making you feel seen, valued, and always welcomed.
A man of deep faith and generous spirit, Luther served as an elder at the Greenfield church of Christ for decades, providing wisdom, compassion, and a steady example of what it means to live a life of service. He was also a proud member of the Greenfield Fire Department and the Greenfield Lions Club, always ready to lend a hand, a smile, or his time to help others and strengthen his community. Luther’s heart belonged to his family. He was a proud grandfather to Nicole (Derrick), Tyler (Olivia), Remington (Harlee), and Rhett, and a doting great-grandfather to Harper,
Hayden, and Hudson. He never missed a game, a performance, or a chance to cheer them on from the sidelines. His presence was constant, his hugs were legendary, and his ability to make each person feel truly special was one of his greatest gifts. He loved early mornings at the coffee shop, attending town events, and being an active part of the community that meant so much to him. To know Luther was to love him — and to feel deeply loved in return. Luther is survived by his beloved siblings: Ronnie (Nannie) Webb, Eva Capps, George (Donna) Neblett, Louie (Sandy) Neblett, and Coretha (Jim) Lefler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Halbert Neblett and Irene Brooks, as well as his siblings Sara (Coy) Armstrong, Hallie Neblett, Carl Neblett, and Randy (Debbie) Brooks. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, community, and unwavering devotion— and a simple but powerful reminder to us all: keep dancing.
