Mary Evelyn Moore Maness, age 90 of Milan, TN stepped
into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on
Saturday morning, November 1, 2025.
She was born on August 6, 1935 in Greenfield, TN the
daughter of Rev. Kleitus and Fannie Mae Moore. She was
a graduate of Greenfield High School and Union
University. She dedicated her life to three things: to Jesus
Christ, her family and to the education of young people.
She taught school in Memphis, Union City and Milan, and
for a portion of career was a principal, in all 38 years.
Many students described her as their favorite teacher.
One, whom she taught in 6th grade at East Side Middle
School in Union City, said that she had the students
memorize the Christmas story from Luke chapter 2, each
December. All former students remembered her sweet
smile and kind, loving nature. She became an outstanding
teacher because she cared about all the children she
taught.
Mary Evelyn was a faithful Christian woman. She loved
the Lord with all of her heart. She was one of the kindest,
sweetest ladies to ever live, an excellent example of the
Christian life. She was a good person, and a precious lady.
She was unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, freely
and openly sharing her faith with others, even to her last
days in the hospital to nurses and visitors to the ICU.
Mary Evelyn was a prayer warrior. She was serious about
prayer. If she told a person she would pray for them, she
might take a note pad from her purse and ask that person,
specifically for what things she should pray. Several
people describe situations where she and her husband
Dale counseled with an individual in the den of their home
and concluded the sessions with all present there in that
room, kneeling and praying together — lifting the needs of
that person to the throne of God.
She was predeceased by her husband Dale Maness and her
beloved son, Stephen Maness. She is survived by a niece
and nephews and cousins. She was grateful to her friends
and faithful caregivers, Mike and Pat Cleary, who allowed
her to live in her home until her death.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 4, 2025
at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Greenfield with
visitation prior to the service from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. She
will be buried at Highland Cemetery in Greenfield, TN
with Williams Funeral Home handling the arrangements,
