Pamela P. McElhiney (Gleason Chapel)

Pamela Poyner McElhiney, 73, of Gleason, TN, passed away on December 12, 2023. She was born on November 29, 1950. Pamela was a beloved high school English teacher and librarian, with a passion for early childhood education. She dedicated her career to shaping young minds and fostering a love for literature.

Pam graduated from Gleason High School and went on to pursue higher education at the University of Tennessee Martin. 

Pam was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Gleason, TN. She found solace and strength in her faith and actively participated in the church community when possible.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry McElhiney, her daughter Angela Hunt, her son Andy McElhiney (Heather Fletcher), grandson Price Hunt and sister Paula Poyner Hooper.  Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Ed and Martha Nell Poyner, and her son-in-law, Jason Hunt.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on January 6, 2024, at 1pm at the Gleason First United Methodist Church. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor Pamela's life and share memories of her.

Pamela Poyner McElhiney will be remembered as a dedicated educator who loved her students like family, a caring wife, mother & grandmother and a pillar of her community. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the knowledge she imparted.
